What is Biodiversity?

Year 3

Year 4

SKU: ESR34CS80950

This ESR scheme of work for Year 3 and Year 4 begins by exploring what biodiversity is and why it is important, through the example of the coral reef ecosystem. Children then find out about the biodiversity of the rainforests, and how this ecosystem is under threat from increasing animal extinction rates. Finally, they will look at the importance of birds in our world, and what we can do to help stop their declining numbers.

Including lesson plans, engaging slide shows for the teaching input, differentiated activities and a range of printable resources, this ‘What is Biodiversity?’ scheme of work shows your class how crucial a wide variety of plants and animals are for us, and our planet.

Make sure you also download this free Garden Bird Classification Sheet to support your teaching of Biodiversity.
