These super Seaside Snack DT lessons for KS1 will get your class tasting, exploring and thinking about a range of foods. The first five lessons each centre around a different element of a picnic, encouraging your class to experience the flavours, textures and colours of different foods. For the final lesson your children will have the opportunity to design their own seaside picnic, while thinking carefully about what makes a balanced meal.

During the first lesson in this series your class will make a savoury seaside snack. They will create pinwheels either using bread or pastry. Your class will develop their fine motor skills as they use tools to prepare and create their pinwheel.

In the second lesson of this DT scheme of work your class will make edible boats. After describing the shapes of the boats they can see in photos they will make their own.
