Learn all about the life and work of Kandinsky, who spent his career developing a 'language' for expressing sounds, ideas and feelings through his paintings. Challenge children to sketch and develop their ideas for an abstract work of art of their own by simplifying drawings of people, animals, places and objects. Encourage them to develop and improve their ideas through labelling, annotating and adapting their sketches.

#Lesson2Expressingsoundsandfeelings

Find out all about Kandinsky's 'language' for art – a way of expressing sounds, feelings and ideas through his use of colours, shapes and lines on the canvas. Children will consider the ways in which they may associate colours and shapes with sounds, in particular, then develop ideas on paper or in sketchbooks for their own music-inspired, abstract work of art.

This Kandinsky colour and shape lesson comes with a downloadable plan, slide show presentation and challenge cards.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Suggested music sheet
  • Challenge cards
#Lesson3Creatingabstractworksofart

Build on children's understanding of Kandinsky's theories regarding colour, then challenge them to develop and improve their ideas for an abstract work of art. After that, it's up to you! Either paint or use art software to produce a final, abstract work of art inspired by a piece of music, or describing a situation of children's own choosing.

This free Wassily Kandinsky lesson for kids contains a plan, a slide show presentation, challenge cards and photo cards.
