#TheCompleteSeries5lessons

This complete, five-lesson KS2 RE scheme of work for Year 3 and Year 4 is the ideal introduction to Sikhism in lower Key Stage 2, as it covers the basics of Sikhism as well as teaching children about some of the major celebrations and ceremonies Sikhs observe. Across the five lessons (each of which includes a detailed plan, slides, activities and printable resources such as worksheets and activity cards), major rites of passage in a Sikh's life, from birth to death, are explored.

If you're looking for a complete collection of Sikhism RE lesson planning for primary schools, we've got Sikhism schemes of work for every year group in KS1 and KS2.

#Lesson1WhatisSikhism

Teach children basic facts about Sikhism and share the story of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.

In this, the first of five complete lessons in 'Sikh Rites of Passage' for lower KS2, children will learn about the fundamental principles and origins of this major world religion. If they've learnt a little about Sikhs and Sikhism previously in Key Stage 1, this lesson is an ideal way to reintroduce and build upon prior learning.

With the included slides, activities and printable resources, children will find out all about the core beliefs of Sikhism.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Differentiated worksheets

This is the third of five lessons in 'Sikh Rites of Passage' for lower Key Stage 2. It's ideal to be taught as part of this scheme of work, but you can teach it as a standalone lesson, too. The included slides and detailed lesson plan explain how the Amrit ceremony is performed, and how this Sikh custom arose. Children will learn all about the tenth guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh, and discover what the five 'Ks' are and why a baptised Sikh must wear each of these articles of faith.
