#Lesson1ConvertingMeasures

This Converting Measures Year 6 Maths lesson is the first in this Measures scheme of work. Your class will begin by identifying the abbreviations and symbols for different types of measurement, before recapping on the relationships between the different units of measure for money, mass, capacity, time and length.

In their independent activities, they will use this knowledge to convert different units of measurement to both smaller and larger units. Alternatively, children can practise these skills by playing the Convert Me To... Game in pairs.

This Converting Measures Year 6 planning pack contains a detailed lesson plan, a slideshow for the whole-class input, differentiated activity ideas and a range of printable teaching resources.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Conversion Cards
  • Place Value Chart

#Lesson2ConvertingMeasuresWordProblems

This Converting Measures Word Problems Year 6 Maths lesson begins with a simple game where children can recap on the various types of measurement and the relationships between the different units. They will then progress to applying this knowledge to solve a variety of multi-step word problems. Within these questions, children will need to decide what methods to use, and at which step in the calculation they need to convert their answers into different units of measurement.

A lesson plan, slideshow for the teaching input, differentiated activity ideas and a range of printable resources are all included in this Converting Measures Word Problems Year 6 planning pack, meaning you have a whole lesson that's ready to download and teach to your class.

What's included:

#Lesson3MilesandKilometres

Your Year 6 class will learn to convert between miles and kilometres in this KS2 Maths lesson. They will start by comparing miles and kilometres, then explore how to convert between the two using a given rule.

Children can then practise these conversions during their independent learning time by either working out distances for a Monster Marathon, or playing a game involving conversion called Are We Nearly There Yet?

This Miles and Kilometres Year 6 Maths lesson contains everything you need in order to deliver this lesson and demystify the process of converting between miles and kilometres.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Monster Marathon Worksheet A/B/C
  • Conversion Cards
  • Fractions to Decimals Conversion Chart
  • Are We Nearly There Yet? Game Sheet A/B

#Lesson4VolumeofCubesandCuboids

Your Year 6 class will explore how to calculate the volume of cubes and cuboids in this ready-to-teach KS2 Maths lesson. First, your class will recap on what volume is and move on to explore the formula (length x width x height) for calculating the volume of cubes and cuboids. They are then challenged to calculate one missing dimension, progressing to two missing dimensions, using a given volume.

In their independent activities, your Year 6 children will apply this knowledge to calculate various different volumes and/or dimensions of cubes and cuboids. Alternatively, they will be challenged to find out which 3D box will have the largest volume based on given measurements.

The Volume of Cubes and Cuboids lesson comes completely ready to teach with a lesson plan, a slideshow for the whole-class input, differentiated activity ideas and a set of printable worksheets and other resources.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • Cuboid Challenge Card A/B
#Lesson5AverageSpeedFormula

In the final lesson of this series, your Year 6 children will learn the average speed formula to help them work out the relationship between speed, distance and time. The included slideshow presentation goes through a step-by-step process for how children can use this formula to calculate average speeds.

They are then challenged to apply his knowledge to finding missing information in a table of results for a cycle race, or in the alternate activity, they will solve and check a variety of real-life word problems.

This Average Speed Formula Year 6 Maths lesson contains an easy-to-follow lesson plan, a slideshow for the teaching input, differentiated activity ideas and a range of printable resources.
