Black History Month

Black History Month 2019

1st-31st October

With the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush on British shores last year, it's a better time than ever to focus on black Britons. Here, we've collected a few of our resources which might be of use to primary teachers during this year's Black History Month. 'Rebuilding Britain: Windrush' in particular focuses on Caribbean migration to Britain at the end of the Second World War. It includes accounts of Windrush passengers and the difficulties they, and their country men and women faced when they arrived in Britain – as well as the contributions of Carribean people to British culture. Additionally, you'll find self-contained one-off lessons about significant black figures in the American civil rights movement.
